It will be the little things that we will remember,
the quiet moments, the smiles, the laughter.
And although it may seem hard right now,
it will be the memories of these little things
that will help to push away the pain
and bring the smiles back again.
Our lost Friends….
L
ike in any other walk of life, we have lost a lot of dear friends over the years. Each and everyone is still in our minds, and are mentioned from time to time….just as it should be.
Who could forget Nancy Murdoch, who did so much for the club over many years. She was only a little woman, but would not stand any nonsense from anyone. Nancy passed away on April 22nd 1992.
Here is Nancy with
her favourite hat!
Of course Gordon Hamilton was there more or less from the start, many years as the respected President of the club. Gordon was always cool, calm and collected and ready to give advise. Gordon passed away in August 2000.

Tom Richardson, a long-standing member from Barrhead occupied the same seat for many years.....just beside the bar. He died in March 1997.
Who could forget Billy Beattie, he never failed to support his club. He suddenly died in 1999, and left his partner May devastated.
Ann-Marie Haley and husband John….always remembered. They came to stay at Sandilands Caravan Site every week-end the club was on. Ann-Marie had a lot of health issues and was confined to a wheel-chair, but that didn't stop her to take part in a lot of things and loved dancing. She passed away on May 7th 1996.
I am sure a lot of people will have very fond memories of Agnes Delaney. Her and her husband Hugh supported the club for many many years.
Hugh, who had a lot of committee experience, kept us on our toes with a lot of good advise over the years. Agnes was always ready to tell a joke, some not that clean....which she would tell people standing in the middle of the dance-floor. Quiet Hugh would just laugh and shake his head! Agnes took ill, and unfortunately never recovered and died in October 1999.
We lost a loyal member, when Peter Duffy died in 1993. Peter had not been a member for a long time, but he supported the club in any way he could.
The same goes for Agnes Pentney. Agnes had a lot of health issues, and she was brought in by her carer Dominic Dunne. She was an extremely nice lady, but was finally at peace in January 1998.
I think one of the saddest times probably was, when troubled John ‘Boycey’ Boyce committed suicide. He was far too young to die, and had been a loyal club member, and then committee member for many years. He was always cheery and ready for a laugh, and nobody suspected that he had a lot of problems. This happened in September 2002.
In December 2002 Janet Corbett died after taking ill, bravely fighting for quite a while. Janet had been a member for 3 years, never missed a club-night, and had the good of the club at heart.
When Jimmy Wales took ill, and it was finally diagnosed as cancer, nobody could believe it. Jimmy was a lovable and lively character, a long-standing club member, and committee member, always speaking his mind and ruffling a few feathers along the way.
His wife Nancy Wales, equally as popular and hard-working, had already been seriously ill for quite a while.
Jimmy was finally released from his pain and suffering on February 5th 2002. Nancy fought on, but they finally were re-united in November 2004, when Nancy was at peace.
Robert Taylor had been a very popular member, who always had the good of the club at heart, for more than 10 years when he took ill and died in September 2003. It was Robert who painted the blue stage back-drop, which still enhances our stage today. It was given to us by his widow Katherine, and we treasure it.
William Boyd and his wife Rachel had been members for many years, and never missed a night. Rachel would get on with her beloved line-dancing, and William would sit and quietly drink his pint, smiling and watching. He quite suddenly died on August 17th in 2004.
Chris McEwan had only been a club-member for 2 years, but was always very welcome. It gave everyone a shock when she died suddenly on 9th April 2005.
When Di McDonald told us that she had to go for tests, nobody believed that she would become so ill. Cancer was diagnosed, but Di battled on for a number of years, before she was finally released from her pain on 5th March 2007.
